In the name of God Amen
I Elizabeth Catharine Gelling of Castletown in the parish of Malew (Spinster) being 
of good health and of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding blessed be 
God for the same I do make ordain and publish and declare this my last Will and Testament 
in manner following that is to say

Whereas in and by a certain Deed of Indenture or Sale in Trust bearing date the 19th 
day of June one thousand Eight hundred and thirty four and made between me the said 
Elizabeth Catharine Gelling of the first part and Mrs. Catharine Taubman of the said 
town of Castletown (widow) of the second part wherein and whereby I transferred assigned 
and conveyed unto her the said Catharine Taubman her heirs and assigns certain bonds and 
securities notes bonds household furniture and other effects for certain uses intents and 
purposes as therein particularly mentioned expressed and for such other uses interests 
and purposes as I the said Elizabeth Catherine Gelling assigned in and by my last Will 
and Testament or other paper writing by me duly signed and executed direct limit and 
appoint as in and by the same relation being thereunto had may more fully appear ~ 
Therefore I the said Elizabeth Catharine Gelling in conformity with the power born 
reserved in and by the said Deed of Indenture or Sale in Trust do hereby confirm the 
same unto the said Catharine Taubman her heirs and assigns and do request that she and 
they share and will apply the rents issued and profits of the dwelling house premises 
and concerns thereby sold and conveyed in and by the said Deeds of Indenture or Sale 
in Trust bearing the date of the 19th June 1835 aforesaid as also the interest arising 
out of the said bonds and securities notes bonds household furniture and the effects 
mentioned and described in and by the said Deed of Indenture or Sale in Trust except 
as is herein after excepted or such part thereof as the said Catharine Taubman her heirs 
and assigns may consider necessary for the maintenance clothing washing and lodging of 
my brother Robert Gelling therein also named and his wife and family if any he should 
have lawfully begotten and sufficient pocket money at the discretion of the said Catharine 
Taubman her heirs and assigns for and during the period of his natural life and upon 
his decease the said dwelling house premises and concerns herein before mentioned as 
well as the several Bonds and Securities notes bonds Household furniture and other 
effects except as is herein after excepted are to be by the said Catharine Taubman 
her heirs and assigns sold transferred and assigned to the issue of the said Robert 
Gelling lawfully begotten in such shares and proportions as he may by his last Will 
and Testament or other instrument in writing direct limit and appoint or in the absence 
thereof to such issue according to law and in default of such issue by the said Robert 
Gelling lawfully begotten and surviving him I the said Elizabeth Catharine Gelling do 
direct the said Catherine Taubman her heirs and assigns by proper and legal deeds in 
writing to sell and convey the said dwelling house premises and concerns wherein I 
now reside to my brother John Gelling of the said town of Castletown joiner and to 
his heirs and assigns forever as is limited and directed in and by the said 
indenture left in trust to be by him possessed after the death of my said brother 
Robert Gelling and I do also leave and bequeath unto my said brother John Gelling my 
clock with the case thereto to be possessed by him at my death.

I also leave and bequeath unto my brother the reverend James Gelling Vicar of the 
parish of German the sum of one hundred pounds British to be to him paid by my Executrix 
herein after named upon the death of the said Robert Gelling without lawful issue him 
surviving but not otherwise.  I also leave and bequeath unto my said brother James Gelling 
a feather bed and bedding to be by him possessed after my decease.  I also leave and 
bequeath unto my nephew Frederick Lamothe Gelling Esquire Advocate the sum of ten pounds 
British in lieu of a legacy left to him by his aunt Amelia Gelling to be paid by my said 
Executrix at my death.  
I also leave and bequeath unto my nephew James Kelly son of Ann Kelly my sister the sum 
of fifty pounds British to be to him paid by my said Executrix upon the death of my said 
brother Robert Gelling without lawful issue him surviving but not otherwise.  
I also leave and bequeath unto my said brother Robert Gelling a feather bed and bedding 
and furniture for a room to be by him possessed upon my decease~~

I leave and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my goods chattels bonds 
notes cash and effects of whatever denomination to my niece Margaret Kelly daughter 
of the said Ann Kelly to her heirs transferred and assigned unto her heirs Executors 
and administrators by the said Catharine Taubman her heirs and assigns after the death 
of the said Robert Gelling without lawful issue him surviving but not otherwise.

And in case any of the legatees hereinbefore named depart this life before any of 
them become entitled to the legacies hereby left and bequeathed unto them I leave 
and bequeath the said legacies of such legatee or legatees respectively to such person 
or persons and in such proportions as they shall direct and approve in and by their 
last Will and Testament and in the absence of such will to their issue or next of kin 
according to law.  And it is my will and desire and declared to be the true intent and 
meaning hereof that the said Catharine Taubman her heirs and assigns shall possess and 
retain the whole of the property goods and effects sold and transferred to her in and 
by the said Deed of Indenture or Sale in Trust dated the said 19th day of June 1835 
except so much thereof  as will be necessary to pay all by debts and funeral expenses 
and such property as is particularly directed to be possessed by the said James Gelling 
and Robert Gelling at my decease Viz, a feather bed and bedding to the said James Gelling 
and a feather bed and bedding and furniture for a room to the said Robert Gelling for 
and during the term of the said Robert Gelling's natural life and upon his decease having 
lawful issue him surviving the several legacies to become null void and of none effect 
except as aforesaid anything herein contained to the contrary under testament.

Lastly I nominate  constitute and appoint my said niece Margaret Kelly, daughter 
of my sister Ann Kelly whole and sole executrix hereof subject however to the restrictions 
and conditions herein before mentioned in testimony whereof the said Elizabeth Catharine 
Gelling have hereunto subscribed  my name this 27th day of June 1835.

At a Chapter Court holden at Castletown on the 28th May 1844
Margaret Kelly the Executrix in the foregoing will ordained is sworn in Court in form 
of law well and truly to execute the last Will and Testament of Elizabeth Catharine 
Gelling deceased to pay all her just debts & legacies  as far forth as the goods 
shall extend and the law bind her and to do all the other acts & deeds in her office 
as Executrix according to law and to these ends hath given pledges namely Fredrick L. 
Gelling of Castletown Esq. & the Revd Alexr Gelling of Arbory.

Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of this Diocese hath this Day granted probate of the 
last Will and Testament of Elizabeth Catherine Gelling late of Malew to Margaret Kelly 
the Executrix in the said will named
And Whereas Frederick L. Gelling of Castletown in the Parish of Malew Esquire and the 
Reverend Samuel Gelling Vicar of the parish of Santon have agreed to become pledges 
to the said Margaret Kelly 
Therefore, know all men by these presents that We, the said Frederick L. Gelling and 
Samuel Gelling hereby bind and oblige ourselves, and our Executors, and Administrators, 
as Pledges to the said Margaret Kelly for due and faithful Administration of Goods 
and Effects of the said Deceased, according to Law. Witness our Subscriptions this 
28 Day of May 1844

Elizabeth Catharine Gelling bapt 10 Aug 1766 Arbory, eldest child of James Gelling & 
"Elizabeth" Key [should be "Catharine"].  Buried 18 Nov 1843 Malew, Spinster age 77.
In 1841 census she is at Quay Lane, Castletown age 75 "Ind" with [brother] Robert 
Gelling 65 Joiner and [niece and exec of her will] Margt Kelly 45.
