The war memorial of Able Seaman George Henry Brew, of "Drake" Battalion, Royal Navy Division, Royal Navy Reserve, oldest son of George and Elizabeth Brew of the Isle of Man who died on 24 December 1917, aged 27, is located at the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, France (Pier 1, Face 1).
The Thiepval Memorial, the Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, bears the names of more than 72,000 officers and men of the United Kingdom and South African forces who died in the Somme sector before 20 March 1918 and have no known grave. Over 90% of those commemorated died between July and November 1916. The memorial also serves as an Anglo-French Battle Memorial in recognition of the joint nature of the 1916 offensive and a small cemetery containing equal numbers of Commonwealth and French graves lies at the foot of the memorial.
The Thiepval Memorial is located in Thiepval, on the Somme, off the D73, ca.7 km north north-east of Albert. The D73 connects Pozières with Hamel, which runs approximately along the front line of 1 July 1916. Visible for many miles, the Memorial is best accessible from the Amiens to Bapaume road, 4km north west of Pozières.
