Royal Air Force Other Ranks Service Records for Brews from 1918

The following information has been taken from AIR 78/21, an alphabetical index to the Air Ministry's Royal Air Force (Other Ranks) Service Records, held by the Public Record Office (PRO) in Kew, London. The actual records of these Airmen and Air Women, in AIR 79, are split into two parts: (i) From April 1918 to the mid 1920's and (ii) From the mid 1920's onwards.

The PRO website notes:

• April 1918-mid 1920s

The Royal Air Force was formed on 1 April 1918 by the amalgamation of the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Services (RNAS).

New records, together with those transferred from the Royal Flying Corps can be found in AIR 79, along with records for those men with service numbers lower than 329000 (if they did not go on to serve in World War 2).

• Mid 1920's onwards

Records for men with service numbers higher than 329000 (plus earlier numbers if they went on to fight in World War 2) are still held by the RAF, who will release information to the airman, or to a next of kin, for a fee.

The class is arranged by service number order and an index to find the service number is available on microfilm in AIR 78.

The below list of Brews has been extracted from the index in AIR 78, which is a microfilm of index cards. I have included people where the surname was not Brew but the maiden name was, or where the married name was Brew, and the maiden name another. The date given in the comments column were stamped on the cards with what appeared to be an ink rubber stamp. The meaning of this date is not clear, but I believe it to be either a date of commencement or termination.
