Archdeacon Will 1682A #45 Lezayre will of Catharine Callow, died 11 April 1682:
Summary: not married, mother Catharine Costeen alias xxxx, sister Jane Callow, brother & sisters each left 6d, witnesses: John Callow &
John Curghey, pledges: Ewan Curghey & [brother?] William Callow, also, [brother?] Nicholas Callow entered a claim for 27s 6d sterling
against executors of Joney Corlett per note at the bottom of Catharine's will.
?Her father: ArW 1655A #02 Lezayre of William Callow, perished by sea 24 March 1654/5, intestate: wife is alive, 6 children:
son William, son Nicholas, dau Alice, dau Christian, dau Catharine, dau Jane, brother John Callow, sister Margaret Callow;
pledges: John Woods of Peel & William Corlett sumner, and later pledges are Duncan Callow & Daniel Costeen.
NOTE: The Lezayre scribe at this time used the 'English' custom of reporting a woman's surname, that is, her husband's surname was given
as hers (see ArW 1682A #42 Lezayre will of Isabel Killip alias xxxx), instead of the surname of her father (which was the Manx custom).
Thus, when Catharine's mother is recorded as 'Kathrin Costeen', the surname Costeen is probably her 2nd husband's surname.
