The War Grave of Denis Brew, 1896-1917

The War Grave of Private 43677 Denis Brew, of the 2nd Battalion Canterbury Infantry Regiment (C.I.R.), New Zealand Expeditionary Force, who died from wounds received in battle on 12 December 1917, aged 21, is located at Menin Road South Military Cemetery, Belgium. (Grave 3N 28)

Denis, born 1896, was the son of Denis snr. and Margaret Brew, of Derby Street, Eltham, Taranaki, New Zealand. He was also the brother of Able Seaman John Brew, who died on 16 February 1942, aged 35, and is remembered on the Tower Hill Memorial in London, England.

Menin Road South Military Cemetery is located approximately 1km east of the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, on the road connecting Ypres (Ieper) with Menin (Menen). It was first used in January 1916, but continued to be in use by field hospitals until Summer 1918.

Denis is related to Vickie Riceman of New Zealand.
