Note 1 - Constance Radcliffe wrote, “In the eighteenth century, the Ballakelly Radcliffes followed each other in quick succession. John, who died in 1712 left an heir Charles, and also three young children under 14…... Charles was soon followed by his brother Philip (1705-1754, entered as owner in the Liber Vast. in 1720), who, like his father, was married twice. Philip had nine children, eight of them in his second marriage with Margaret Brew. The heir, son of the first marriage, was William and the eldest son of the second marriage was also named William a common practice in the eighteenth century and earlier which has sometimes caused difficulty to people working on their family trees. When Philip, a younger brother, died intestate in 1756, the estates of his parents who had died two years earlier had not been settled. Philip was supposed to have received £5 from his father and a black cow from his mother, and these had now to be divided, the £5 between the "brothers and sisters by the father's side" (including the half-brother William), and the cow between the brothers and sisters by the mother's side." The father Philip willed to his son and heir William, "his half of the team (viz the two bullocks that used to be on the outside)" and said to him, as reported by the witnesses "you have now they Crop and team, and you can plow & Thom can drive & work ye ground this year together. William was "to oversee his children that they should not be wrong'd by anybody." In the same year William married Alice Sayle of Ballachurry, by whom he had thirteen children, the heir being the third son Charles, as the first two sons had died in infancy….” [Journal of the Isle of Man Natural History & Antiquarian Society, vol VIII no.2.]

Note 2 - Margaret Radcliff married William Kenneen Andreas 10 December 1734. Cath Radcliff married Daniel Tear Andreas 29 July 1733, and died 25 January 1774. Her will named her granddaughter Cathrine Wade, her daughter Issabell wife of Daniel Wade, her son Daniel Tear, her granddaughter Cath Tear, daughter of Daniel, and her daughter Cath Tear was sole executrix.

3. John BREW married three times. There are descendants from two marriages: to (1) Elinor SKALY and to (3) Margaret SKILLICORN.

3. John Brew b.1684 marriage (1):

(1) Marriage Andreas parish register: to “Marriad”(sic) SKALY of Jurby 6 Feb.1706/7. Andreas Northside Sales [1714] note that a marriage contract existed between John Brew, the son of Philip Brew and Marriott Brew als Garrett, and Ellin Skaley.

John Brew and family moved from Andreas to Jurby, retaining land in Andreas which they sold in 1733 [Northside Sales]
